![]() ![]() The story begins with two ordinary fellas out poking around on an island of ruins when the careless Daxter falls into a pit of dark Eco. I guess they don't need a bandicoot to be successful after all. This development team goes by the name Naughty Dog and Jak and Daxter is their first foray into the gaming world sans Crash Bandicoot. So why is this relevant? Because, while Sony may no longer own exclusive rights to the Crash Bandicoot franchise, they do have exclusive rights to the development team that created Crash and all of his games (excluding the current PS2 version). Due to the tangled web of licensing, Sony can no longer lay claims to Crash Bandicoot, their lovable unofficial mascot. ![]() Well, up until about a year ago, Sony had Crash. Getting physical PS2 copies may be more difficult, however.Nintendo has Mario. I hope this helps.Įdit: Jak X is not available on PS3, but is available on PS2 and PS4. If you have a strong enough PC, emulation is a potentially great alternative. ![]() If the PS4 versions are the most accessible, get those ones, but be aware that they have some notable issues (you can find more detailed explanations of them on YouTube). So, in short, if you have either of the older consoles (PS2 or PS3), go ahead and get those versions. I am using PCSX2, and currently replaying Jak II. After some extensive tweaking with the settings, the PS2 versions can run very well, and look great, but it largely depends on your PC's power. However, I have been emulating the games on my laptop, which has mid-range specs. If you have a PS2 or PS3, those versions are more recommended (fewer bugs and framerate issues). They are ports of the PS2 version, run through emulation software on the PS4. However, as others pointed out, these versions have quite a few issues, as they are not proper remasters. The problems may seem small but they really build up over time.Īt this point, the PS4 versions of the first four games are the most readily available, digital only (unless you count the Limited Run Games physical releases, but those are much harder to come by now). The PS4 emulation also had locked inverted camera controls, and other visual problems like the full-screen picture in Jak 1 being cropped instead of proper full-screen or the graphics sorta breaking when playing the PAL version but these have been patched out I believe. The PS2 games targeted 60fps but could drop slightly at times. The oracle in Jak 2 is the most famous for this and personally the texture for the wave attack the final boss uses glitched out and purple untexture blocks (I'm not sure how to describe it) would take up the screen), sound problems like audio popping, analog stick controls being locked to 8 directions instead the full 360 degree range, the framerate also drops more consistently on PS4 than in the original versions. If you never played the original PS2 versions or the PS3 HD collection, it's easy to not notice the problems with the PS4 emulation like texture Issues (ex.
